Why shop drawings matter before anything is cut
A design drawing shows intent: a marble floor, a stone wall, a vanity, a staircase. A shop drawing shows how that intent is built. It names every piece, joint, thickness, edge and cut-out, and it is the sheet the fabricator, the site team and the consultant are all looking at. On a UAE fit-out that difference is expensive to get wrong. Stone is ordered, nested and cut from the approved set. A sink that is 20 mm out, a vein that runs the wrong way, or a mitre that does not match the adjacent wall is not a quick site fix.
D3DDD prepares those sets for contractors, stone fabricators, joinery shops, consultants and interior designers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other emirates. The work is delivered digitally. You send the architectural or interior drawings, sketches, site sizes or photographs through the enquiry form, and the scope, price and delivery date are confirmed in writing before drafting starts. Shop drawings, drafting, design, estimation and 3D work are quoted per project. The only published prices on this site are the website packages.
What a delivered set contains
The standard issue is an AutoCAD DWG and a PDF of the same sheets. The DWG is the working file: layers, real dimensions, and piece marks the factory can keep using. The PDF is what most consultants mark up and what the site prints. When the scope includes quantities, cutting lists or a bill of quantities, the schedules are set out so they can be taken into a spreadsheet. 3D work is issued as high-resolution images. Other formats can be discussed when you ask for a quote; they are not assumed.
- Plans, elevations, sections and the enlarged details the work actually needs.
- Joint layout, edge profile, thickness, finish and cut-outs such as sinks, hobs and sockets.
- Piece marks that match a cutting list or slab layout, when stone is being nested.
- A revision table, so a later comment round is a new issue and not a silent overwrite.
- Notes in English, Arabic, or both. Say which you need with the enquiry.
How consultant review usually works in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah
On most fit-out projects in these three emirates the specialist drawing — stone, joinery, or the coordinated architectural set — is submitted by the contractor to the project’s consultant. That reviewer is whoever the contract names: the architect, the interior designer, the engineer, or more than one of them. Comments come back on the PDF, as a marked-up print, or as a comments list. The drafter revises the sheets, clouds what changed, raises the revision, and the set goes back. Fabrication waits until that reviewer has approved the issue they asked to see. D3DDD does not replace the consultant, and a shop drawing is not a building permit.
What changes from Dubai to Abu Dhabi to Sharjah, and from one project to the next, is the title block, the number of review copies, and whether the main contractor wants a transmittal or a particular sheet list. There is no single national shop-drawing form. If your project has a checklist, send it with the drawings and the set will follow that checklist. Permit sets and BIM submissions are a different scope from a fabrication shop drawing. Where a project also needs them, that is agreed separately. Notes on drawing packages and on Dubai BIM submissions are on the blog, including drawing-package notes for Dubai and Dubai BIM submission notes.
Turnaround
There is no fixed public turnaround, because a single vanity is not the same job as a villa floor. The delivery date is written into the quote and confirmed before drafting starts. A comment round after the consultant replies is a further issue, timed once those comments are in hand. Missing site dimensions pause the affected sheets until you send them. If a date is critical, say so in the enquiry and send the drawings you already have, even if they are still sketches.
Where to go next
Stone fabrication lives on the marble and stone shop drawings page. Broader CAD sets are under architectural drafting. Early layouts are architectural designing, quantities are architectural estimation, and presentation images are 3D rendering. Contractor websites, with the published AED prices, are under website development and the website packages page.
The projects show the kind of sheets already issued for Dubai villas: bathroom marble cladding, villa ground-floor flooring layout, bathroom slab nesting and Venatino bath vanity. FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What are marble shop drawings?
Marble shop drawings are detailed fabrication and installation drawings for stone works — plans, elevations, sections, joint layouts, edge profiles, cut-outs, thickness and finish — prepared so fabricators and site teams in Dubai and the UAE can cut and install accurately.
Which areas of the UAE do you serve?
We work with contractors, fabricators, consultants and designers in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah and across the UAE. Most work is delivered digitally, so location is not a barrier.
What file formats do you deliver?
AutoCAD DWG and PDF drawing sets as standard. 3D renderings are delivered as high-resolution images. Other formats can be discussed when you request a quote.
What do I need to send for a quote?
Architectural or interior drawings, sketches, site dimensions, photos or a short description of the scope and deadline. Send them through the enquiry form on the contact page.
Do you provide drawings in Arabic?
Yes. We communicate in English and Arabic, and drawing notes can be prepared in English, Arabic or both.
How much does a contractor website cost?
Our Contractor Website package is AED 2,000 for a 5-page, mobile-friendly website with an enquiry form. 50% is paid upfront and the balance on completion.
How does the shop drawing process work?
Send your drawings, dimensions or sketches by email or through the enquiry form. We review the scope and confirm the price and delivery date in writing, then draft the set, send it for your review and comments, and deliver the approved drawings as DWG and PDF.
Do you prepare BOQs and quantity take-offs?
Yes. Our architectural estimation service covers BOQs, quantity take-offs, material schedules and tender packages, including stone quantities and slab layouts for marble works.
Can I see examples of your work?
Yes. The projects page shows marble and stone shop drawings, slab layouts and tiling details from villa and bathroom projects in Dubai. Open d3ddd.com/projects/ or ask for a sample through the enquiry form.
Why do shop drawings matter before stone is cut?
They freeze piece sizes, joints, thickness, edges and cut-outs while the material can still be nested. Once a slab is cut, a wrong opening or a vein running the wrong way is a replacement, not a pencil correction.
How does consultant approval usually work in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah?
The contractor submits the shop drawings to the project’s consultant — architect, interior designer or engineer, as the contract names them. Comments come back on the PDF or as a list. The sheets are revised, the revision is raised, and the set is resubmitted until that reviewer approves it for fabrication. Requirements differ by project. Send any checklist you have been given. A shop drawing is not a permit.
How is turnaround agreed?
With the quote, in writing, before drafting starts. The date depends on the number of areas, how complete the source drawings are, and how many comment rounds follow. There is no single public lead time.
What is in the first issue?
DWG and PDF sheets covering the agreed scope: plans, elevations, sections and the details needed to fabricate or install. Quantities and slab layouts are included when they are part of the quote. Notes can be in English, Arabic or both.
Can you start from sketches or site sizes only?
Yes, if the sketches or measured sizes are enough to draw the scope. Where a dimension is missing, that sheet waits until you send it. Say what you have when you use the enquiry form.
Do the website prices apply to shop drawings?
No. Shop drawings, drafting, design, estimation and 3D rendering are quoted per project. The published prices are only the website packages: AED 1,200, AED 2,000 and AED 3,500+, with the 5-page contractor site at AED 2,000 and 50% paid upfront.
